Noodles, Beakers and Tide To Go

After a long day sitting in my pink-feature-walled office, I had a chance to get out and talk the ears off an ex-Sydney switcher, Sas, and her S&S 'Dinner Club' mates Brianne, Travis and Monty. As it is fairly quiet in this office, going to dinner with the guys was a great way to release some Chan-chatter and to hear and learn more about Saatchi NY and be taken to their local.

L-R: Travis, Monty, Alex (Bri's roommate), Bri.

While waiting for Sas to finish up, we went to Ear, a bar just around the corner. I decided to indulge in a local beer, Yuengling, which has claim to being the oldest brewery in America. The Yankees also happened to be playing (and incidentally, won the World Series) and Travis was quick to point out early on that saying "Im just watching THE baseball" was a big giveaway to my tourist status.

A few Yuenglings down, Sas arrived and it was great to see her in her element and in her own town. I happily switched roles to play tourist and we took off to Chinatown for noodles. There was much furious debate over exactly which hole in the wall we were going to but we ended up happily at Great NY Noodletown. Chinatown here feels just like Chinatown at home or being in HK. Same awesome food, same sparse decor and same cheap prices. After dinner, we headed down a nearby alleyway to Apotheke.

The Great NY Noodletown feast:

My keenness for another drink was replaced with slight trepidation as Monty pointed out all the potential rat havens/ garbage bags. Thankfully, the doorman at Apotheke loomed out of nowhere and ushered us inside.

Inside Apotheke:

Apotheke is a great bar inspired by the history and rise of apothecary and the absinthe dens of 19th century Paris. All the bar staff wear lab coats and the alcohol is mixed in beakers and flasks. If only Year 9 Science had been this much fun. They made some great cocktails but the highlight of our time there was discovering Tide to Go. Being such a klutz, I think it will become to me what an Epi Pen is for those at risk of anaphylactic shocks. Spillages will become a thing of the past when I can whip out my Tide To Go! Ah.. only in America.
